Using your device

Kelvi delivers cold, heat, or contrast therapy directly through a Smart Wrap™ fitted around your treatment area. Inside the wrap, KelviTEC™ tiles generate and transfer temperature to your skin, while embedded digital thermistors continuously measure your actual skin temperature. This real-time feedback loop between the wrap and the console keeps your treatment accurate and within safe limits throughout your session.

Yes, Kelvi has apps for patients and clinicians.

The Kelvi Patient app is available for iOS and Android. It can help you run therapies and track your progress, though is not required for patients to use the device.

The Kelvi Clinician App is available for clinicians on iOS and Android and allows them to set up custom treatment protocols and push them directly to the Kelvi console over Bluetooth.

The length and frequency of your sessions will be determined by your prescribing clinician. Always follow your prescription. During any extended session, remove the Smart Wrap™ every 90 minutes or less to check your skin for any irritation.
The Kelvi system is designed to deliver therapy even while you sleep. However, for any extended treatment, the Smart Wrap™ should be removed every 90 minutes or less to inspect your skin. If you notice any irritation, stop treatment immediately and contact your healthcare provider.
Your clinician will determine which therapy mode—cold, heat, or contrast—is right for your condition. Contrast therapy is typically used during recovery after procedures, for joint stiffness associated with swelling, and in later stages of healing.
During a treatment session, press the Adjust Temperature button on the console screen and select your desired value. When starting a new session, select your treatment type (Cool or Heat), then choose your target temperature using the on-screen controls before pressing Start. Available temperatures may be limited to a range set by your clinician.
Use the + and − buttons on the console screen to increase or decrease air pressure in the wrap. Start at a low setting and increase one level at a time until the wrap feels snug and comfortable. Press the Stop button to immediately release all air pressure. Do not increase pressure to the point where you feel pain, notice discoloration in the surrounding area, or feel that circulation is restricted. Always release all air pressure after every use.

Yes, but always remove the KelviTEC™ Insert from the sleeve before washing. Close all zippers, then hand wash or machine wash the sleeve in cold water with mild detergent. Hang to dry.

Clean the KelviTEC™ Insert separately by wiping it with a soft cloth dampened with mild detergent or 70% isopropyl alcohol, then allow it to air dry. Do not submerge, hand wash, or machine wash the KelviTEC™ Insert—doing so will void the warranty.

Most error messages include a specific instruction on the screen. Common steps include:

  • Connection error: Disconnect the Smart Wrap™ from the console, then reconnect firmly until you hear a click.
  • Fit error: Remove and refit the Smart Wrap, ensuring it lies flat against your skin with full contact.
  • Console error: Unplug the console from power, wait 15 seconds, then plug it back in and restart.
  • Airflow error: Make sure the console's vents are not blocked. Place the console at least 6 inches away from any wall or solid surface.
  • Water level error: Check that the internal water reservoir is full.

If the device continues to behave unexpectedly after following the on-screen instruction, stop using it and contact Kelvi support.

Rental and return

The initial rental period is typically 30 days, based on your physician's prescription. If your clinician determines that continued therapy is medically necessary, extensions are available. Your Kelvi representative will check in with you approximately 15 days into your rental to see how you're doing and discuss whether an extension is needed.
You don't need to ship the device yourself. Your Kelvi representative will coordinate pickup of the device at the end of your rental period. Please return the device in the same condition in which you received it. If you have questions about your scheduled pickup, contact your local distributor representative.

Safety

Stop using the device immediately and remove the Smart Wrap™. If you notice redness, discoloration, blistering, or increased swelling—or if you experience burning or itching sensations in or around the treated area at any time—discontinue use and contact your healthcare provider. For longer treatment sessions, remove the Smart Wrap™ every 90 minutes or less to inspect your skin, even if you feel no discomfort.
Patients with type I or type II diabetes should only use the Kelvi system under the direct supervision of a licensed or certified healthcare professional. Additionally, the air pressure (compression) feature should not be used in patients with diabetes mellitus. Please speak with your prescribing clinician before using the device.
